White Collar Crime & Government Investigations

We’re skilled litigators: strategic, nimble, and tenacious.

Being the target of a government investigation or a victim of a crime can shake a company to its core. These problems can result in loss of a company’s contracts, clients, reputation, and even the business itself.  For individuals, their liberty is at stake.

We know what the options are and how the system works. The head of our practice group served for over a decade in the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, including as Deputy Chief of the Criminal Bureau where he supervised the Environmental Crimes Strike Force, the Public Integrity Division, the Economic Crimes Division, and the High Technology Crimes Unit.

Strategic where we can be, aggressive when we need to be

Our goal is to avoid the filing of criminal charges. If charges are brought, we defend against them vigorously. We study the factual and legal issues, ascertain areas of exposure, and then advise on how to manage that risk.

Our clients include large public companies, non-profit institutions, closely held entities, executives, employees, and individuals. We handle fraud, corruption, tax, healthcare, SEC, ethics, and employment matters. We excel at understanding the minefields that loom for clients in regulated industries such as government contracting, healthcare, and public construction.

Our Work

  • Defended a publicly traded company in a criminal investigation by the Attorney General’s Office involving alleged violations of the wage statute. Successfully convinced a Superior Court judge to quash a portion of a grand jury subpoena. No criminal charges were brought.
  • Succeeded in avoiding a prison term, over the objection of the United States Attorney’s Office, for a client convicted of insider trading.
  • Convinced the Attorney General Office’s to dismiss felony indictments against a corporation’s president in exchange for a guilty plea by his defunct company.
  • Conducted an internal investigation for a large privately held business and uncovered an embezzlement scheme. The case was referred to law enforcement and the former employee was successfully prosecuted.
  • Represented numerous elected and appointed public officials in State Ethics Commission investigations.
