Mark Smith concentrates his practice in white-collar crime,
government investigations, and business litigation and
regulation. Mr.
Smith represents individuals and businesses during all stages of
criminal and other government enforcement actions and in
business litigation matters.
Before entering private practice, Mr. Smith spent over a
decade as an Assistant Attorney General in the Massachusetts
Attorney General’s Office.
His significant accomplishments included:

Serving as Deputy
Chief of the Criminal Bureau where he supervised over fifty
prosecutors assigned to the Environmental Crimes Strike Force,
Public Integrity Division, Economic Crimes Division, and the
High Technology Crimes Unit.
·
Overseeing the
prosecution of over one hundred public corruption cases.
·
Personally trying
cases ranging from securities fraud to public corruption
offenses in Superior Courts throughout the Commonwealth.
·
Acting as a
Special Assistant United States Attorney in joint federal and
state criminal investigations and prosecutions.
Mr.
Smith also served as a public defender in New York City, where
he successfully tried cases in New York’s trial courts and
clerked for a trial judge of the New York States Supreme Court.
He is active in the Boston Bar Association, serving as a
member of its Criminal Justice Steering Committee and chairing
several continuing education programs.
Mr. Smith is a graduate of St. Lawrence
University and Suffolk University Law School.
He lives in Scituate with his wife and their two
children.
